Did you know that an American man broke the marathon world record earlier this year? Are you surprised to learn that it took him a little more than 33 hours to complete the race?

Meet Adam Gorlitzky, who in January 2020 completed the Charleston (SC) Marathon in 33 hours, 50 minutes, 24 seconds in a robotic exoskeleton suit -- shattering the previous “exoskeleton marathon” record by almost three hours.

Gorlitzky, who is paralyzed from the waist down due to a December 2005 car accident, has completed more than fifty road races in the state-of-the-art exoskeleton suit as part of his effort to raise awareness and funds for his non-profit, I GOT LEGS. The organization’s mission is to “ReEnable” athletes with physical challenges by providing opportunities, programs, and grants that unlock an improved quality of life. The goal is to support improvements to life-changing technology for the physically challenged.
